Pushing Through the Holiday Blues: Finding Peace and Joy Among the Struggles
The holiday season can be a challenging time for many of us. While it’s often painted as a season of joy and celebration, it can also stir up feelings of loneliness, depression, and anxiety. Memories of loved ones we’ve lost, the weight of unfulfilled expectations, or simply the lack of sunlight can make these months feel especially heavy. It’s important to acknowledge these feelings and remember that you’re not alone in them.
As the year draws to a close, it can feel like a time of reflection a mix of cherishing the good times and mourning the bad. The shorter days and darker evenings may weigh on our spirits, and it might seem like the world is purging and resetting all at once. But even in the midst of these emotions, there’s a light. Let’s take a moment to shift our focus.
Stop worrying about what others are doing, can’t do, or won’t do. The truth is, we can’t change what happened yesterday, and tomorrow isn’t promised. What we do have is today. So, let’s focus on today. Let’s remember what the Lord has done for us and the blessings we’ve received, the moments of joy we’ve experienced, and the strength we’ve been given to keep going.
This season, I encourage you to create new memories. Honor the loved ones you’ve lost by doing something in their name something that brings joy to your heart and celebrates the legacy they’ve left behind. Start new traditions with the people you hold dear. Smile, even when it’s hard. Remember, the best way to honor those we’ve loved and lost is to live fully and create a life they’d be proud of.
It’s also important to let go of unrealistic expectations, especially the ones we place on ourselves or others. Stop expecting you from everyone else. Be truthful about your feelings acknowledge them, share them, and let them remind you of your strength. Your struggles, your tests, and your trials are part of a bigger story a testimony that could inspire and save someone else.
Life will always have its hurdles, but each one you overcome makes you stronger. Take it one day at a time, moment by moment, and live for the present. There are so many who didn’t make it to today or who long for the peace and blessings you have right now. Fight for your peace because it’s more valuable than you may realize. Peace is wealth, and it can lead you to a happier, fuller life.
Remember, we need each other. I need you, and you need me. Together, we can push through the tough times and find joy in the moments we’re given. Keep moving forward. Keep creating. Keep smiling. Everything is going to be okay.
So today, let’s push with purpose. Push with love. Push with Janay. And most importantly, push with faith. We’ll get through this together.
